In Honour of Jeremy Salmond: Let’s Talk about Old Buildings, New Work and Design

Events

The late Jeremy Salmond – heritage architect, NZIA Gold Medallist and University of Auckland Distinguished Alumnus – positioned himself at the design end of architectural heritage conservation work. It is contested ground: what to keep, what to replace, what to replace it with, and what additions and alterations might look like.  This panel discussion, chaired by Julia Gatley as part of the NZIA’s 2023 Festival of Architecture / Auckland Architecture Week, explores some of the complexities of designing new work on old buildings. Dame Anne Salmond (Waipapa Taumata Rau) and Lloyd Macomber (Salmond Reed Architects) will both speak as guests of honour, followed by the discussion with panellists Paola Boarin (Waipapa Taumata Rau), Robin Byron (Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga), Pamela Dziwulska (Salmond Reed Architects and Chair of ICOMOS New Zealand), Rau Hoskins (DesignTRIBE, Te Pūkenga Unitec, and the Māori Heritage Council), and Sarosh Mulla (PAC Studio and Waipapa Taumata Rau).

Details: Friday 22 September 2023, 5.30-6.30 p.m. in the Design Theatre, Waipapa Taumata Rau, 22 Symonds Street, Auckland. Book tickets here.
