Success in the 2025 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards
All congratulations to Deidre Brown (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Kahu) and Ngarino Ellis (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Porou) for their success in the 2025 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards. They won the BOOKHUB award for illustrated non-fiction, for Toi Te Mana: An Indigenous History of Māori Art, co-authored with the late Jonathan Mane-Wheoki (Ngāpuhi, Te Aupōuri, Ngāti Kurī) and published by Auckland University Press in 2024. Toi Te Mana is a major historical survey of Māori art, with subject matter ranging from architecture, painting and carving through to tattooing and jewellery. It is a tremendous achievement, twelve years in the making. For more information, click here.
